Portrait

Joyful Girl

Alright... here it is... an actual photograph of myself. It's not very often that I have the chance to actually do my hair, and it's ultra rare to have any makeup on! I put a splash of colour on my lips- just for the photo...

A fitting piece of poetry... a song...

joyful girl

i do it for the joy it brings
because i'm a joyful girl
because the world owes me nothing
and we owe each other the world
i do it because it's the least i can do
i do it because i learned it from you
and i do it just because i want to
because i want to

everything i do is judged
and they mostly get it wrong
but oh well
'cuz the bathroom mirror has not budged
and the woman who lives there can tell
the truth from the stuff that they say
and she looks me in the eye
and says would you prefer the easy way
no, well o.k. then
don't cry

i wonder if everything i do
i do instead
of something i want to do more
the question fills my head
i know there's no grand plan here
this is just the way it goes
when everything else seems unclear
i guess at least i know

i do it for the joy it brings
because i'm a joyful girl
because the world owes me nothing
and we owe each other the world
i do it because it's the least i can do
i do it because i learned it from you
and i do it just because i want to
...because i want to

Snow!

LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!

It's been a while since my last post! We got a huge dump of snow over the weekend, which kept a lot of us Edmontonians in the house! I think we got about 27cm, within 36 hrs! Normally, this amount of snow isn't a big deal... but we've had a freakishly mild winter, and we don't typically get that much so fast!!

That spruce tree across the road, has about 1/2 ft. of snow on the lower part of the branches! I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off yet. Then again, we've had little wind. That car was there for about 4 days, and the guy who owns it had to recruit friends to help get him out! I don't know where hewas while all that snow was falling- probably partying on Whyte Ave... But I would have been shoveling as the snow fell, to keep it from piling up. He had about 1.5ft of snow in front, so he couldn't just drive out!

It is super slick out there right now, though. The walks along the sides of our duplex are icy, b/c the icicles are starting to drop and make ice piles! We've decided not to shovel, salt or maintain the path on our side. The boys downstairs can do it, since they've done nothing all winter to maintain the walks. We decided to keep Vi and Jerry's side clean and we'll go that way to the back! I can't wait til those guys are out of the basement. Their lease isn't up til the end of May :(

This is the view of our house from the sidewalk... Fiona's watching me in the window!

Darren and Erin had their baby this morning. I got a call around 3am to come watch Dakota, as they couldn't get a hold of their neighbour... So off I went.

Tula Jane Clyde was born around 7:45am, weighing 7lbs, 60z. Today was Erin's actual DUE DATE! How strange is that!? I'll post pictures when I get them...

Just another post

"...PLAY ME A SONG TO SET ME FREE

Nobody writes them like they used to
So it may as well be me
Here on my own now after hours
Here on my own now on a bus
Think of it this way
You could either be successful or be us
With our winning smiles, and us
With our catchy tunes and words
Now we're photogenic
You know, we don't stand a chance"

-Belle & Sebastian

Poor Kieran... stuck inside while Fiona's out shovelling with Dad! He really does want to be doing everything his big sister can do! He does like watching the world go by. When someone walks past the house, Kieran starts banging on the window. There's an old man who's taken a liking to his antics, and will stop for a few minutes to wave and smile at Kieran.

The kids have been having great fun playing together. Kieran really can't wait til he can play rough with his sister. I think she'll get a run for her money when he can!! LOL She likes showing him how to do things, and enjoys being a big sister. She even informed a complete stranger the other day, that she was a GOOD big sister! LOL Yes, most days
she is!

Here you can see Kieran looking longinly at his sister's ability to run up and down the hall, without having to hold on to door frames and air vents! LOL

Time to post!

First of all.... all music lovers, and fans of The Family Guy... HAVE to check out this link!!!
Ah-Ha video spoof

Well, it's quite busy around here. Jason's wrapping up his final semester at the UofA, and will soon have his Masters completed! He's quite stressed, as he's under the gun (the clock is ticking)...
Fiona will be done daycare in the middle of March... long story as to how that came about. We had thought we'd finish up at the end of February, but changed our minds. I had called the morning of Feb. 1st, and told the director. She told me to bring a written notice. Well, between that call and my arriving (during which we had decided to go til the end of March), she had GIVEN Fiona's spot away! It didn't even occur to me at the time, that she couldn't do that w/o my written notice! I thought of that later on in the evening, when I informed Jason. Grrr... so we worked out having Fiona in til Mar 15. Part of me feels bad for taking her out, as she really enjoys it and it is a great facility. However, the bank of Fleming just cannot afford to keep her there. First of all, my maternity ends at the end of March (yeah, news to me, too... thought I had til April), and secondly, we're going to NB April 20-May 4!

Our Ayyam-I-Ha celebration was on Sunday. Jason, Fiona, Kieran and I spent most of Saturday night, setting up the centre for the festivities. Jason arranged to do a bunch of games, crafts and activities. Fiona had a great time, and even got to play with her best buddy from Children's classes, Celine!
(That's me and Fiona in the middle of the group picture)

I shouldn't stay on here much longer. My big plan was to get to bed early. I even taped Survivor and CSI, so I could grocery shop and make it to bed early tonight! Yes, I know-- huge sacrifice on my part!! LOL I'll post a few new pictures and wrap up for the night!

Fiona and Kieran are always on the GO...
